Why Oxford renovations skip the skip
On a paper comparison a skip can look cheap. On an actual Oxford job it rarely stays that way. If there's no driveway — true of most of Jericho, East Oxford and large parts of Cowley and Headington — the skip goes on the road. That means a highways permit arranged through the skip firm, typically adding several working days' lead time and a fee passed on to you. Plasterboard, POPs and paperwork
Two rules trip up DIY renovators. First, plasterboard can't go in with mixed waste: gypsum in landfill produces hydrogen sulphide gas, so it must be segregated for recycling. Keep board offcuts in their own pile or bags and we'll take them as a separate stream. Second, old sofas and upholstered furniture pulled out during a refurb fall under the POPs regulations and also travel separately — our sofa disposal page has the detail. Is a man and van cheaper than a skip in Oxford?
For most Oxford renovation jobs, yes — once you include the on-street permit, parking suspension and your own loading time, a collected half-van load usually undercuts a comparable skip, and larger projects come out close to even with far less hassle. Can you take rubble and how is it priced?
Yes — rubble, brick, tile and concrete are priced by weight rather than volume, because a van reaches its legal payload long before it looks full. As a guide, we take roughly 20–25 standard rubble sacks per quarter-load allowance. Tell us the waste is rubble when you send photos and the quote will reflect weight pricing from the start.
Do you take plasterboard?
We take plasterboard as a separate, segregated load — UK rules ban gypsum from mixed landfill waste, so it must travel apart from general renovation rubbish and go for specialist recycling. Keep offcuts in their own bags or pile and mention them when booking; mixed-in plasterboard can mean a whole load is reclassified and recharged.
Can you collect during a renovation, not just at the end?
Yes — staged collections are exactly what the service is built for.
